Coming Out

Courage is being afraid but going on anyhow.
- Dan Rather

It's no secret, coming out as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or even a straight-supporter of the GLBT community can take a lot of courage. Each person lives in their own unique circumstances, and so each person has a different experience coming out.

The Human Rights Campaign, the largest GLBT-focused civil rights organization in America, has a number of guides to help when coming out–for the first time, and every day. Links to the guides are listed below.

These guides are provided by the Human Rights Campain; their content is not necessarily endorsed by the Gay, Lesbian, Bisxual Student Union or the University of Central Florida. For more information, see the HRC Coming Out website.

UCF Allies Program

Remember, you can always find support from a UCF Ally. Just look for the Allies Placard outside offices and residence halls. Allies will provide safe haven, a listening ear, and support for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people.
